Differentiation

Lately in my SEDU class, we have been learning about differentiation.  Differentiation is something that you will always experience in a classroom.  It is recognizing differences among students.  These differences could be personal backgrounds, education, readiness, interests or knowledge.  Students will always be at different levels and need different types of assistance in a classroom.  Learning how to adapt to these needs is very important so that every student can learn to their full potential.

I personally have experienced differentiation in my classes.  There are always several students of different backgrounds who come together to learn.  It can be helpful to share experiences and build off of each other.  I personally was never very good at math or reading.  I had to go to someone who was able to work with me more one on one and help me understand it better.  I was weak in those areas, but excelled in others.  Everyone has the ability to learn.  All students learn at different rates and using different techniques can help them learn information better.  I think diverse classroom like this make for a better learning environment.  Even though everyone is not always at the same level, all students have something to learn from one another and it makes for a better experience.

Technology can play a big part in a differentiated classroom.  If someone has a hearing or sight impairment, those types of tools could help them learn better.  Some children may be very unmotivated or just have trouble in the classroom.  Using computers or things like smart boards make learning fun.  Children love these types of things because it is fun and makes it seem less stressful.  I personally love using technology for that exact reason.  There are so many positive advantages to it for kids!

  1. We used the same picture :) I really liked how you incorporated how you yourself had help with subjects you were not good at. I liked how you could relate to the topic, that will be good when you are a teacher to be able to relate to your students who may struggle with the same subjects that you struggled with.

  5. I agree a lot with your first paragraph about how students will always be at different levels in the classroom. I also agree that using technology in the classroom can only benefit the students.

  6. Something that stood out to me from the beginning was the various color choices you chose for this post. I don't know if you chose to do this specifically to tie into the different interests and color choices your readers might have, but I like it! It suits your topic! Also, I too agree that using technology in a differentiated classroom can be very useful; great point!
